Apparel industry has a huge impact on how we, in the western world understand our bodies. Before the industrialization, fabric was sewn by a tailor to fit the individual measurements of the body. Due to the standards required in the apparel industry, sizes was invented, and these defined sizes became a way to measure our bodies up against a number which said more or less about what kind of body you had. We have now ended up having a system in which the body does not only relate to its own standards, but must complete and meet shapes and sizes standardized to fit into an automated production.
